SONY WH-1000XM4 is a good follow-up similar to WH-1000XM3. So, how much have users changed their listening habits between the two devices?
Generally, the product life cycle is between one and three years and is consistent with the successor model, the WH-1000XM4 development production cycle. Between WH-1000XM3 and WH-1000XM4, users began to enjoy higher quality content than ever before. Since people are WFH, they are consuming high quality content from most OTT platforms. Therefore, awareness on various audio codecs, high-resolution audio has increased significantly and users expect a lot more from their audio devices.
Speak-to-chat is a way-breaking technique. With the exception of the WH-1000XM4 so far no headphones can claim this feature, which creates a wow feeling for the user. DSEE Extreme, on the other hand, is a very useful technology that enables users to reach high-resolution low-quality content. Although these two technologies are equally important, the speak-to-chat feature plays an important role in influencing customer purchase decisions.
How do they decide what to release for the Indian market?
They do in-depth market research before deciding which models to offer in India. As they are in each price segment and form factor, they do check the appropriate type of product locations in the relevant segment and determine which models are available.
When you buy a phone, cheap headphones usually appear in the box. Some people think it fits. What do you see for things like 1000XM4 beyond the people in the box?
Most smartphone brands these days have stopped supplying free headphones with phones, so naturally people have to buy it separately. Also, buying premium headphones like the 1000XM4, finding the right target audience and reaching them with reasons to buy is a very challenging task, but sony have been doing it for a few years. They have a strong presence both online and offline channels, which helps them to sell the premium range.
